Doll Factory Returns To Studio For "Weightless" Follow-Up

Anonymous on Monday, October 01, 2007 (12:51:25) (292 reads)DOLL FACTORY RETURNS TO STUDIO FOR “WEIGHTLESS” FOLLOW-UP Electro-Rock Band Returns To Musical And D.I.Y. Roots For Inspiration (Seattle, USA / New York, USA) Indie electro-rock band DOLL FACTORY have returned to the studio for the long-awaited follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2002 debut full-length album, “WEIGHTLESS”. While details of the upcoming (and yet-to-be-titled) release are being kept under wraps, excerpts of early versions of some of the songs have already been spotted online in “Behind the Scenes” documentary clips the band has begun to post on sites such as YouTube, MySpace, and as a new video podcast series, not to mention a redesigned web site at www.dollfactory.org. Planning an independent release of the upcoming album after amicably parting ways with the Neue Asthetik label of their previous releases, the band says a return to the indie D.I.Y. aesthetic of their roots has also effected a return to their musical roots - of a sort. “Don't be surprised if the next disc sounds more 'new wave', 'post punk', or 'indie electronic rock' and not so specifically 'goth' or 'industrial’,” explains co-vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Chris Roy, taking a break from an arranging session with Garrick Antikajian, the other half of the two-person “studio lineup” comprising Doll Factory (the band expands by two to three additional members for live shows). “While the new stuff will still unmistakably sound like "Doll Factory", trying a ‘songs come first’ approach for the new material has, to risk sounding like a rock critic, "taken us back to our roots". “When you're an "artsy type" suburban white kid who grew up in the 80's and 90's, "back to your roots" doesn't necessarily mean we're going to spend nights overdubbing pleasant-sounding acoustic guitars.” In the meantime, the band has re-released its previous recordings, the full-length “Weightless” and the six-song “Premonition E.P.”, for digital download through iTunes and other download services. Why Artist Development Makes A Difference
Posted by
Anonymous on Thursday, September 28, 2006 (03:43:52) (412 reads)Artist development in the music industry has evolved over time, leaving most of the early progress to the artist themselves. For the most part, the days are gone when a record label developed up and coming talent. The question continuously arises for those young artists, “where do I start”? With the advent of the Internet, the possibilities are mind boggling. Many artists put in their mission statement, simply that they want a record deal, thinking that is all they need to succeed for career in music. Most don’t have a clue what it takes to get that deal, let alone maintain that career. Artist development is a huge area overlooked by far too many artists and bands. Let’s explore the question, “What is artist development”? A record label A&R rep once “discovered” fresh new faces in clubs, bars or word of mouth and would then support them, cultivate their creativeness, build up their fan base, and guide their direction with the intent of turning them into superstars. All of this of course, was with the intent of selling those 45’s, LPs, cassette’s and CDs. Gradually, many labels moved more into product development, which meant they are focused more on the immediacy of sales of the latest CD (product) released, and not bringing the artist up to that point. And more often than not, naive artists were at the labels mercy. In this Internet age, it is more the artist or band themselves that must build the quality sound that is ready as a commercially viable product. On top of that, they need to have an already established fan base, basic music business skills, perhaps even the early music sales of a well produced CD. Labels are looking for pre-packaged, very talented musicians that are already showing their value. A music career is a charted path to follow. Artist development involves all the issues surrounding and arising from that charted path, and crosses into knowledge of product development – the ultimate sale of the music. Checklist on what artist and product development necessitate: Exceptional vocals, musicianship and/or songwriting skills Continued education and enhancement of musical skills Quality equipment Performance ability Image creation and maintenance Plan of action, goal setting Exceptional promotion materials, including photographs, press releases and artwork Business management skills Marketing, publicity, and promotion knowledge, online and offline Professional management Basic knowledge of recording, producing, engineering, and mastering Basic knowledge of manufacturing, distribution, and sales online, brick and mortar and air-play Good choices in members, staff and advisors Physical and mental preparedness Basic knowledge of finances, accounting Law and legal issues: publishing, copyrighting, trademarks, and an attorney Alternative career options – even athletes need to have other options!Tending to all areas of your music career may make the difference between a one hit wonder and longevity in this business. It’s been said, “If you think this is a piece of cake, you better go bake one.” The music business, again, is a business. Businesses need to make money. That's worth repeating - the music business is a BUSINESS . Take the time to find out all you can about each of these steps in your journey. That being said, an up and coming artist must begin somewhere…and if a career in the music business is the goal, then any naiveté must be addressed immediately! Knowledge is power. Power gives you leverage. And who knows...that entrepreneurial artist may just find they don't need that particular record deal after all.

Official Statement from Young Debarge involving Janet Jackson child

bmccray on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 (22:02:49) (285 reads)FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW YORK, November 30, 2005 – Young DeBarge, BAI Management and O.C.F. Records would like to release this official statement. On October 21, 2005, Young DeBarge was on the Miss Jones Morning show on Hot 97 WQHT in New York City in order to promote his debut album, “The Hunt,? and the hit single, “Exotic Spot (E-Spot).? Although Young anticipated having to answer questions regarding his family and the Jackson family, he was anxious to discuss his first solo music project. As Young has done on many prior occasions, he candidly answered questions posed about his family, the Jackson family and his brother’s (James) marriage to Janet Jackson. His responses were aligned with his understanding of the relationships within and between the two families. Incidentally, Young has held his beliefs as true long before he considered having a solo career. When Young previously spoke about these truths in personal and small groups, his statements were not well known and held out for public opinion. Therefore, since Young’s solicited responses during the interview exposed his convictions to a larger population through the mass media, his already founded ideas became popular discussion in national and international public forums. Consequently, Young has been subjected to much publicity. Young’s responses were not any less truthful to him or to those around him, despite the timing and circumstances under which the responses were given. The responses given during the interview has called Young’s character into question by some people as being part of a promotional scheme. Young answered all of the questions asked to the best of his knowledge and he stands behind all of his statements. In addition, due to the recent media publicity surrounding this interview, Young has received numerous threats via e-mail and telephone. We will continue to take these threats seriously and Young will not be intimidated and run from what he believes to be true. Furthermore, Young will not disclose any sources of his information because he does not want to subject anyone else to this kind of scrutiny, unless they voluntarily and willing consent to make themselves available for comment. Young DeBarge, the record label, his management and publicity team would like to assure everyone that this was not done in order to fuel a media storm. We are not among those who are eager to profit from any negative publicity of the DeBarge or Jackson families. Young is a talented composer, singer, songwriter and performer. We are confident that his unparalleled talent will speak for itself and this will not impede further promotion of his album. We would like to thank the media outlets that have supported Young and his music, as well as all of Young’s fans. Stay tuned as Young continues to break barriers and become R&B’s newest sensation. Young De Barge is currently available for interviews and performance bookings through BAI Management at (718) 926-0091. Former MARILYN MANSON Guitarist Joins ROB ZOMBIE

Merlin on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 (21:17:49) (209 reads)Former MARILYN MANSON guitarist John 5 has announced that he will be playing guitar for ROB ZOMBIE on the Hot Topic Second stage at this year's Ozzfest. "I'm totally estatic about having the opportunity to play with Rob on Ozzfest!" John 5 said in a statement. "He has been one of my favorite artists for the longest time. I had the opportunity to play with him a few weeks back, and never thought that I would have the chance to share the stage with him playing the ZOMBIE songs we all know and love!" When asked what this meant for LOSER, John's new band, he said, "This will not affect LOSER in any way. We are still pressing forward with writing new material for our debut album." Commented Zombie: "I haven't really officially said this yet but once again I will be hitting the road with Ozzfest. This time I've decided to headline the second stage. Main is a drag, man. It's so uptight that it is almost a bore. I can't wait to get away from the fucking seat and play to all the maniacs that are always trapped up on the lawn. This should be insane. "There are some lineup changes this time around. John 5 of ex-MARILYN MANSON fame will be handling guitar duties this time out. I'm totally stoked about this because this guy is a fucking shredder. I played 'Thunder Kiss 65' with him at The Arrowhead Pond Arena for a benefit a couple weeks back and it never sounded so fucking good."
OZZFEST Is Top-Grossing Festival Of All Time
Posted by
Merlin on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 (21:47:28) (221 reads)Billboard.com is reporting that Ozzfest is the top-grossing touring festival of all time, and, outside of the Vans Warped tour, is the longest-lived. Since 1996, Ozzfest has grossed $172 million and drawn 4.2 million fans to about 240 shows, according to producers Clear Channel Entertainment (CCE). Jane Holman, general manager of CCE's touring division and producer of Ozzfest, is high on this year's lineup. "It was a real coup to get IRON MAIDEN this year," she told Billboard.com. "To have IRON MAIDEN playing with BLACK SABBATH is incredible. Heads will explode." Osbourne admits the tour has grown beyond his wildest expectations. "It’s grown so fucking quickly, I can’t begin to tell you," he told Billboard.com. He says the tour only got off the ground after his wife/manager Sharon "asked Lollapalooza if we could get a spot on their tour, and they said there’s no room, I don't know if it was me in particular or for that kind of music. And Sharon got pissed and said, 'fuck them, we’ll do our own thing." Tickets will range from $35 on the lawn to $85 for gold circle. "We really, really try so hard to keep the costs down," says Sharon. "We’re not one of these that say, 'We've got great bands, we can really yank the ticket prices and squeeze Joe Public.' We try to bring the best talent for the best prices. I wish a beer cost the same as it did 10 years ago, too."
OZZFEST 2005: Complete Details Revealed
Posted by
Merlin on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 (19:32:18) (173 reads)It's big. It's bad. And it's back for more. Got a problem with that? Ozzfest — the king of festivals — triumphantly returns this summer to celebrate its hard-earned 10th anniversary with the staggering line-up of BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, ROB ZOMBIE, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SHADOWS FALL and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. The summer's premier concert festival — which has propelled many of today’s rock bands to superstardom while paying close attention to its discerning fans — will roll out July 15 in Boston and visit 26 cities by the time it reaches West Palm Beach on September 4. The Hot Topic Second Stage will be headlined by ZOMBIE and feature a preview of rock's rising stars, including AS I LAY DYING, MASTODON, THE HAUNTED, IN FLAMES, ARCH ENEMY, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, BURY YOUR DEAD, SOILWORK, TRIVIUM, IT DIES TODAY, A DOZEN FURIES and more. "I'm most proud of the success of Ozzfest," says founder Sharon Osbourne. "Everyone said it would never happen and 10 years later we are still in business." In fact, 125 bands, 238 shows and over 4 million fans later, the all-day extravaganza of music and deranged merriment is roaring louder than ever. History in the making, 2005 marks the first time metal legends BLACK SABBATH and IRON MAIDEN have toured together and also represents IRON MAIDEN's first Ozzfest appearance. IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson said, "This summer's MAIDEN touring is based on the recent 'Early Days' DVD and all the songs we do at Ozzfest will be from our first four albums — 'Iron Maiden', 'Killers', 'Number of the Beast' and 'Piece of Mind'. We will be bringing over our full European show, naturally including as special guest Eddie in various appropriate guises!! The stage sets, production and backdrops will recreate aspects of the shows on the tours around those albums — only bigger… much bigger!!! We don’t know if anyone has done anything like this before but we think it’s something the fans will really appreciate both in the choice of songs and in the production values." Also debuting on the tour will be Texas-based band A DOZEN FURIES who landed their coveted Hot Topic Second Stage slot after winning Ozzy and Sharon's MTV "Battle For Ozzfest" reality series competition. Debuting last fall and lasting right up until the February launch of the fourth and final season of the Emmy-award winning "The Osbournes", "Battle For Ozzfest" is the ultimate battle of the bands, with contestants having survived 2004's grueling Ozzfest challenges. This year, a limited number of fans who purchase OZZY OSBOURNE's first-ever 51-song, four-CD retrospective box set "Prince Of Darkness" (out March 22 of Epic Records) will be able to obtain one free Ozzfest ticket. The initial pressing of the box set will feature a precedent-setting promotion allowing fans to buy one Ozzfest general admission ticket and get one free. Ozzfest, originally launched in 1996 as a limited two-city trek, has become a virtual breeding ground for up-and-coming bands. The renowned second stage has been instrumental in catapulting the careers of SYSTEM OF A DOWN, LINKIN PARK, LIMP BIZKIT, INCUBUS, SLIPKNOT, DISTURBED, GODSMACK and CHEVELLE. "Playing Ozzfest — twice — will always be among the highlights of our career," notes drummer Samuel Loeffler of CHEVELLE, who most recently appeared in the festival’s 2003 line-up. "Personally speaking, I was honored and somewhat nervous about sharing the stage with Ozzy, but finally felt comfortable after both he and Sharon patted me on the ass." The heavy metal juggernaut has earned a hallowed position in the busiest tour season with a relentless commitment to its core fans and the consistency of quality they demand as their birthright. Just as the festival is committed to presenting the best music, it also provides an interactive, multi-sensory experience for concert-goers with a wide-range of attractions. The traveling show’s notorious "Village Of The Damned" — alive with tattoo artists, piercing booths, state-of-the-art video games, a wide range of vendors and much more — promises to be wickedly tempting. JUDAS PRIEST — one of the biggest attractions on last year's tour — declared: "We were thrilled to be part of such a unique moment in heavy metal history that will be remembered forever!" Jonathan Davis — lead singer for KORN, who pounded the main stage in 2003 — added, 'Ozzy and Ozzfest are some of the cornerstones of metal. I loved playing in front of the Ozzfest crowd, the fans at those shows were f$*#ing amazing." In addition to drawing vital hard rock acts, Ozzfest has always attracted a variety of select sponsors devoted to the tour's core fan base. Hot Topic — returning to host the second stage — will be the festival’s official soft line teen retailer. Throughout the day, Tama drums and Ibanez guitars will proudly showcase their arsenal in the Village. F.Y.E. (For Your Entertainment) is on board for the fifth consecutive year as the official music retailer and will host the FYE autograph tent giving fans the opportunity to meet some of their favorite Ozzfest artists. Trojan brand condoms will also have presence in the Village as the official latex condom of Ozzfest. Jagermeister will once again bring the backyard BBQ party back to Ozzfest and prove their commitment to metal music with artist autograph signings and tons of free swag for attendees 21 and over.
