Very Long Engagement

Kemo on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 (20:57:42) (289 reads)GREAT LOVE STORY French with English subtitles Audrey Tautou--Amelie, happenstance Jody Foster (small part of another soldiers wife) Five soldiers shoot themselves in order to be relieved from the frontline at the Somme, in WWI. A court-martial decides to punish them by leaving them alone in no-man's land, to be killed in the crossfire. Then all hell breaks loose and they all die. Or do they? One of these men's fiancée, a young girl who suffers from the lasting affects of polio since the age of 3, receives information that makes her suspect her fiancée might have gotten away alive. So she embarks in a painful, long and often frustrating ordeal to find out the truth. Moving, memorable, must see I give it 5 out of 5 stars
Kibakichi

Kemo on Thursday, June 23, 2005 (04:25:22) (331 reads)Kibakichi 6/28/2005 rental The box reads “A lone samurai walks the country side. His name is Kibakichi and his mouth hides sharp fangs. When he reaches a village he finds geisha who turn into carnivorous spiders and man-eating demons disguised as humans. Their hunt for human flesh was in fact a contract with the town crime boss. What is the boss’s plan? When the secret is revealed, Kibakichi goes into a rage and his body starts to mutate. Limbs will fly and heads will roll in a final showdown between good and evil. Ok…hmmm, well ya see “What we have here is a failure to communicate. I understand fully that that a synopsis should be direct, appealing and highlight some of the best moments in any film, and this cover back is pretty damn much hitting the nail on the head. As long as you don’t add any of your own thought into the reading. The sword fights are a bit typical but done fairly well, the creature effects,Yoki, are old school props and prosthetics, Kibakichi’s looks and I mean looks exceptional after his “mutate. Mutation or transformation is almost 50’s “Wolf Man with a crappy try at “American Werewolf in London…. um, No. The “geisha spiders prey within a family run casino. The really cute girl almost makes up for the bad props when the geisha’s true form appears, almost. The town crime boss has agreed to give the Yoki demons a place to live in peace if the Yoki do as he asks. Hence the contract for human flesh, but the crime boss has just obtained gattling guns from England and no longer desired the power of the Yoki thus ending their relationship; ensuing slaughter causes the rage of mutation in Kibakichi. Now I know what you are thinking, this sounds like some of my favorite anime, and if it wasn’t a live action attempt at generic anime, I would have sad something nice about it. If you use a service like Blockbuster Online* then queue this one up for a good laugh with some buddies, or if you just dig this kind of B Japanese action. Other wise scavenger for a coupon just don’t give up that cash for it
H.G. Wells War Of The Worlds “2005

Kemo on Thursday, June 23, 2005 (04:25:07) (249 reads)H.G. Wells War Of The Worlds “2005 06/28/2005 rental This adaptation stars C. Thomas Howell. Thank you, goodnight. Seriously this film is faithful to the original story of a scientist who realizes he is a family man, while searching for his family , and discovering the bio-technical path to fighting back against the unimaginable alien power. The special effects are identifiably CGI; the blending of animation with live action is not delivered well. This will not stack up against the power house that Cruise is piloting, but if you desire more alien destruction give it a rent
Hitch

Kemo on Thursday, June 23, 2005 (04:24:30) (250 reads)Will Smith is a space crane operator in the distant future who boxes with alien robots to determine the fate of the world. Ya I’m sure…Well…Actually Smith is Hitch, THE date doctor, his motto is that any man can have a relationship with any woman no exceptions. Kevin James, “King of Queens, is Albert, his next client. Albert is one of many accountants for Allegra Cole (think Paris only more personally appealing), played by Amber Valletta. Eva Mendes is a gossip columnist, Sara, which has caught the eye of Smith. Sara and Hitch don’t exactly have whirlwind romance, seems the date doctor is a pill for himself. When Sara connects Hitch with Albert and the pop celeb Allegra, she exposes the dirt and destroys Hitch. Can any man be with any woman, you’ll wanna watch and see? Usual romantic comedy, but fun and entertaining. Refreshing to see Smith not go “over the top but actually pull away from it with great timing

"The Devil's Rejects", which stars Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and Sheri Moon Zombie, opens in theatres on July 22. Rob Zombie is also working on a new studio album, although he does not have a firm release date for the record. ROB ZOMBIE's 'The Devil's Rejects' Deemed 'Too Intense'

Merlin on Wednesday, April 06, 2005 (17:12:47) (187 reads)Launch Radio Networks is reporting that Rob Zombie is about two weeks away from completing work on his second directorial effort, "The Devil's Rejects", and he says the movie is more violent and more psychologically intense than his first film, 2003's "House of 1000 Corpses". In fact, Zombie had to submit the movie to the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) eight times, making cuts each time, before it would grant the film an R rating. But Zombie told Launch it wasn't the movie's physical violence that bothered the ratings board. "There was a couple of scenes in particular they just could not get over," he explained. "And, you know, I would talk to them and I'd go, 'Well, what can I cut?' There's no nudity, there's no bad language, there's no violence, there's no nothing.' They're like, 'Yeah, but the tone is too intense.' That literally is like someone watching a comedy and telling you it's too funny, make it less funny." Zombie says he and the ratings board eventually came to a compromise to get the film its R rating. "The Devil's Rejects", which stars Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and Sheri Moon Zombie, opens in theatres on July 22. Rob Zombie is also working on a new studio album, although he does not have a firm release date for the record. Zombie will, however, headline the second stage at this summer's Ozzfest, which begins on July 15 in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
